It’s been a minute fam, so lets talk.
Back in January we shared a vision of creating an experience where we got to introduce our group on our own terms. We had no money, no venue, no promotion connections, and no short cuts. But we had a vision and a date, March 4th. That same week we were told by people that what we were trying to achieve was impossible. That we should start smaller, wait longer…settle.
But we refused, and immediately after 2 miraculous events took place.
The first event was crossing paths with our manager, Robert Lee. He saw what we were trying to accomplish and took a huge chance on us. He invested in the startup costs for our show. He mentored us and guided us as we set out to do something different, something new. He encouraged our creativity while managing ours (my) fears through council. None of this would have happened without him.
The second event was…well, you. You made this happen for us. You took the risk of buying tickets, sharing our posts, our music, and bringing your friends and family, all without never even seeing us play before. More importantly, you actually showed up! You sang with us. You cried with us. YOU SOLD OUT OUR SHOW. You made something that seemed impossible and made it a reality. You showed Seattle the power of community.
The following week we took some time to rest. We watched Spinal Tap. We jammed without touching our music. We (unsuccessfully) barbecued. We spent time being grateful for what we just accomplished while planning out what our next moves are. We knew that for us to make the moves we wanted to make we needed to record somewhere other than our spot at the auto garage. Luckily our manager had the amazing idea of inviting Eric Lilavois of London Bridge Studios to our show, planting the seeds that would begin the next Phase of our journey.
One of the most difficult choices one has to make when being a musician is choosing who you want to produce your music. Eric made this choice INCREDIBLY easy. In my mind, this person is an extended member of our group. They are family. The type of family that cooks incredible food for you while helping you chart out your future. The type of family that is comfortable in our very unorthodox practice space. The type of family that sees our vision, and SHARES it.
So what now? What's next? Well, starting May 17th, we begin recording at London Bridge Studios. We are excited to give you the full representation of all the music we’ve created in the last year. And honestly, I don't think we could have picked anyone better than Eric to help us along this phase.
But real talk, I’m sure you already figured that out the moment we started talking about Eric. The real question is, whats next with our relationship with you? When are we playing next? When's our next show? Honestly I can’t give dates yet. While some things are set like recording, other things like our next live experience are still being worked out.
I CAN say it will be soon. I can say we are also working on something else that's a little different. Something centered around our relationship with the community, and not just our band. An engaging experience giving you the platform to connect with your community just as we do. something both fresh and familiar at the same time. But for this to be effective, we have to proceed with patience and care. We ask that you give us just a little more time as we promise to share more as we make more progress.
So thats where we’re at fam. Again, you made this possible. You showed us the power of community. It's our goal to take that power you’ve given us and elevate to new heights. With you. Soon.
